The electronic Child Health Network (eCHN) is a secure electronic health record that allows authorized health care providers, such as your family physician or your paediatrician to access the latest medical data about your child instantly from many different sources.
eCHN is committed to protecting the privacy of patients’ personal health information and aligns with the health care industry standards for data security. eCHN data are encrypted and travel through a secure private network. Your child may be required to move around to a variety of health care providers in different facilities and locations. Each visit can produce new medical information which forms an essential piece of the entire health picture for the patient. It is important that the medical professionals caring for your child be able to access his/her medical history and recent updates as quickly and easily as possible. Accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date patient information is vital to medical decision-making.
eCHN enables a vital transfer of patient health information among health care providers that is rapid and seamless. By meeting this important requirement of our health care system, eCHN is working to improve the health of every child in the province.

eCHN shares health information with medical professionals within the “circle of care” for your child in accordance with Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004. If you wish, you may revoke consent for the release of your child's personal health information to eCHN from any member facility you visit. You may also revoke consent for access to your child's existing information on eCHN for any member facility you visit.
eCHN has grown to encompass more than 100 hospital sites around the province, including major paediatric centres like Toronto’s The Hospital for Sick Children, London Health Sciences Centre and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.
